ASICS moved from being a running brand you bought trainers from to a brand people wear as everyday sportswear. The clothing followed the trainers, and the ASICS range now covers tracksuits, sets, tees and shorts alongside the Gel models that started it.
If you are buying a men's ASICS tracksuit in the UK, there are four things to get right: which format, which size, which trainers, and whether you should be buying a tracksuit at all rather than a lighter set. This guide covers all four.
It is written for someone buying their first one. If you already own ASICS and want a specific comparison, the shorter articles linked throughout will get you there faster.
Understanding the range
Nearly everything sold as an ASICS tracksuit in the UK is from the Core range. Core is the everyday line: 100% polyester, water-repellent on the outerwear, quick-dry, with reflective branding. It is designed to be worn casually as much as for training.
There is also a Road range, slightly more technical and slightly dearer. The Foggy Teal Road T-Shirt Set at £89.99 is the example we stock. For a first purchase, Core is the right place to look. We have broken the line down fully in the ASICS Core range explained.
The two garments that make a tracksuit
The Core Windrunner is the jacket. Full zip, light shell, water-repellent, not insulated. £89.99 on its own as the Black Core Windrunner.
The Core Woven Pant is the bottom. Elasticated waist with a drawcord, straight taper. £54.99 as the Black Core Woven Pant.
Put them together and you have the Black Core Tracksuit at £149.99.
Choosing a format
| Format | Pieces | Price from | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tracksuit | Jacket + pant | £149.99 | Autumn to spring, the classic look |
| Tracksuit Tri-Set | Jacket + tee + pant | £174.99 | A complete outfit in one order |
| Windrunner Set | Jacket + shorts | £129.99 | Summer with a layer for evenings |
| Windrunner Tri-Set | Jacket + tee + shorts | £164.99 | Full summer outfit |
| T-Shirt Set | Tee + shorts | £74.99 | Hot weather, testing the range |
| Separates | Your choice | £34.99 | Mixed sizes, mixed colours |
For a UK buyer wanting one purchase to cover most of the year, the Core Tracksuit Tri-Set at £174.99 is the sensible pick. It is also the only format where the bundle costs less than the same pieces bought separately, by about £5. The set vs tracksuit vs tri-set article has the full comparison if you want the numbers.
Sizing
The Core range is true to size. Order the size you normally wear.
One exception, and it only applies to the jacket. If you want to wear a hoodie or a midlayer underneath the windrunner, size up one. The polyester has no stretch, so a snug jacket stays snug. If you are wearing it over a t-shirt, stick to your normal size.
Do not size up the pant to match a sized-up jacket. The elasticated waist means a larger size sits low and the leg runs long. Different sizes across the two pieces is normal and invisible.
If the set you want only comes in matched sizes and you need different ones, buy the jacket and pant as separates. It costs £144.98 against £149.99 for the set, so you are not penalised.
Measurements are on our sizing guide page, and there is more detail in the tracksuit sizing guide.
Shorts lengths
Shorts in the sets come in 5in and 7in. That is a style decision, not a fit one. 5in sits higher, 7in closer to the knee. Our 5in vs 7in guide covers which suits what.
Trainers
This is where most of the outfit is decided. A tracksuit with the wrong trainers looks like gym kit. Three Gel models matter.
| Model | From | Fit | Character |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gel-Kayano 14 | £189.99 | True to size, roomiest | The default. Widest appeal. |
| GEL-1130 | £139.99 | Half a size up | Lower, cleaner, cheapest entry |
| GEL-NYC | £189.99 | Half a size up | Chunkiest silhouette |
Both the GEL-1130 and the GEL-NYC run snug, so half a size up is the safer call. The Gel-Kayano 14 is true to size and the roomiest of the three, which makes it the easy recommendation if you have wider feet. Options include the Gel-Kayano 14 'Fjord Grey' at £199.99 and the GEL-1130 'Sharkskin' at £169.99. The whole lot is in the trainers collection, and which Gel trainer should I buy picks between them properly.
When not to buy a tracksuit
Honest section. A tracksuit is the wrong purchase if any of these is true.
You want a warm jacket. The windrunner is a shell. It blocks wind and sheds light rain and that is all it does. Layer underneath or buy something else.
You mostly want it for summer. A T-Shirt Set at £74.99 or a vest set like the Aegean Blue Core Vest Set at £59.99 makes far more sense, and costs half as much.
You are not sure you will wear it. £149.99 on a maybe is a lot. Start at £74.99 and work up.
You want a colour. The full tracksuit is black. Colour lives in the sets, and there is plenty of it: Lazer Orange, Grey and more across the sets collection.

Quick answers
Do ASICS tracksuits fit true to size?
Yes. The Core range is true to size in both pieces. Size up one on the jacket only to layer a hoodie underneath.
How much is a men's ASICS tracksuit?
£149.99 for the two-piece Core Tracksuit, or £174.99 for the tri-set with a tee included.
Are ASICS tracksuits waterproof?
The windrunner is water-repellent, not waterproof. Fine in a shower, not in sustained rain.
What trainers go with an ASICS tracksuit?
Any of the three Gel models. The Gel-Kayano 14 is the safest first pair and the roomiest fit.
Is ASICS better than Nike for tracksuits?
Different rather than better. We compare them in ASICS vs Nike vs Under Armour sets.
