Fjord Grey: white mesh with grey overlays
The Fjord Grey Gel-Kayano 14 is a white mesh upper with Fjord Grey overlays through the cage, the eyestay and the heel. At £199.99 it is the most expensive of the three, and the one most people picture when they think of this shoe. The grey shows off the Kayano 14's lines. The overlays are what make it look fast, and a contrast colour makes that far more visible than a tonal finish.
How loud is it? Medium. It is not a colour-pop shoe, but the grey-on-white contrast means it reads as a trainer with a shape rather than a white blob. From across a room you can tell it is a Kayano 14. From across a street you probably can't.
What it goes with: almost everything in the ASICS core range. It sits closest to the Smoke Grey Core T-Shirt Set, where the greys pick each other up without matching too neatly. How loud is it? The loudest of the three, but that is relative. Light navy is a soft colour, not a bright one. It reads as a deliberate colour choice rather than a neutral, and it is the one people notice first when the three are lined up. If you want the pair with the most personality, this is it.

Read the size column twice. It is the one thing that can take a colourway out of the running before you have thought about it.
Which one to buy first, and which one second
First pair: Fjord Grey. The most flexible of the three. White and grey go under every set colour we stock, the grey overlays hide the odd scuff, and it is the version most people recognise. If you only ever own one Kayano 14, make it the grey and white Kayano 14 and you will not regret it.
The one that reads smartest: White Ivory. If your wardrobe leans clean and pared back, or you want a trainer that works with something other than sportswear, the tonal white Kayano 14 is the sharpest looking of the three. It is also the cheapest, a rare case of the smartest option costing the least.

How each one wears and marks
All three share the same white midsole and mesh upper, so midsole marking and mesh picking up grime is common to all of them. The differences are in the overlays.
- Fjord Grey is the most forgiving. Grey overlays hide scuffs, and the white mesh between them is broken up enough that dust does not stand out. Expect it to look presentable the longest between cleans.
- White Light Navy is similar in practice. The navy overlays hide marks well, and the white mesh panels are the parts that need attention. Watch the toe, where scuffs from kerbs and other people's feet tend to land.
- White Ivory shows everything. A tonal white shoe has nowhere to hide a mark, and the ivory overlays sit right where the shoe creases and rubs. It is not fragile, it just needs a wipe down more often. If you clean your trainers on a Sunday, fine. If you do not, be honest with yourself.
